Nikki Hayward is the senior nurse for Cancer Research UK in Oxford with a focus on research and public engagement. Working primarily in early phase cancer research, Nikki is a resource for information and advice about new trials and treatments being offered in Oxford, and communicates information about cancer to a variety of audiences including patient support groups, fund raising groups and the general public. This incorporates raising awareness of early symptoms and health behaviours which may help to avoid cancer.

Working clinically once a week, she is able to stay up to date with the portfolio of trials being delivered. As part of the wider department she helps to educate other health professionals within the field of oncology, raising awareness of the role of the early phase clinical trials unit and the implications of looking after the patients who are taking part in early phase research.

Opening Cancer Research UK shops, starting Race and Relay for Life events and attending conferences provides both variety and an opportunity to engage with a larger audience.
